The young widow, Lady Nicole Sherberton cares since the death of her husband at their lovely but headstrong mother Lady Claire Sherberton. It is generally expected that Captain Gregory Armitage, the best friend of Lady Nic's late husband, will continue after the year of mourning for her hand. Nic seems to agree. Gregory Nic and Claire visited frequently and knows a solution, as both require a chauffeur: Duncan Fraser, one of his best officers, who had to leave the Navy.
Duncan and Nic got the very first meeting together. Nic has never been such a crude, unfriendly Man hit, and Duncan has no understanding of Nic's diplomatic behavior he criticized a lack of backbone. And so Duncan announced the position on the evening of the first day.
But the night that he necessarily even have to spend in Sherberton Manor, everything changes: Nic Duncan saves against a burglar who has brought them into his power. After the shock, survived, the two nearer, and Nic Duncan confesses her dream: to get a driving license and to drive up the coast to Lands End. Lady Claire is determined to nip the budding feelings in their infancy. It simulates a heart attack and asks Nic to accompany them for a few weeks in a cure. She hopes to separate the two like that, but Nic Duncan can not banish from her heart. Especially not when she learns to their complete surprise that she is pregnant. She thought it impossible - after all, their marriage was childless.
goes completely confused her home, looking to talk to Duncan, but here are waiting to surprise her, Duncan has been rehabilitated and is ready to return to his unit. Nic suspects not that Claire is behind this and is reluctant to tell Duncan of her pregnancy. Debbie also appeared, the mistress of Nic's deceased husband, in Sherberton Manor, and claims to have a child by him, for it requires maintenance. Nic tries to find money required to save her mother, the bitter truth about the false step of her son. She has no idea that Claire's nephew William is behind the extortion.
When that comes out eventually, it's all too much for Claire: This time, her heart is not really up to the load. During her long convalescence, she is loyal to Nic. At the same time it closes the pain of Duncan's decision for the Army deep inside. Finally, it is just Claire, Nic advised to follow their hearts.
